30 Day Million Dollar Challenge A Success

Assiniboine Park Conservancy Shatters June Fundraising Goal in 30-Day Million Dollar Challenge

Representatives from the Assiniboine Park Conservancy are overwhelmed by the community support shown through the now complete 30- Day Million Dollar Challenge, shattering its intended goal by raising $2.1 million during the month of June.

“It doesn’t happen often, but I’m absolutely speechless,” said Margaret Redmond, President & CEO of the Assiniboine Park Conservancy (APC). “We’re a fairly new organization so this was really the first time we had gone to our community to ask for their support and this kind of result shows how much Assiniboine Park means to the people of this province.”

The 30-Day Million Dollar Challenge launched on June 1st as part of the Assiniboine Park Conservancy’s $200 million Imagine a Place fundraising campaign, with the intent of raising $1 million during the month of June. To accomplish this goal, APC challenged Manitobans to raise $500,000 which would be matched dollar for dollar by two anonymous donors. What happened next was truly unexpected.

“The response was amazing right from the start, so much so that the dollars raised were going to surpass the $500,000 available in matching funds,” said Redmond. “Then in the last few days of the challenge a third donor was confirmed who wanted to increase the matching funds and, before we knew it, we were over two million dollars. It’s incredible!”

All funds raised through the 30-Day Million Dollar Challenge will be designated towards APC’s Imagine a Place Campaign, in support of its $200 million redevelopment plan to revitalize the Park and Zoo. The overall Campaign currently stands at $113 million raised.
